Hotel Sonnenberg visit

12 January 2017

Our BA students visited local hotel Sonnenberg as part of a consultation project on the site's various information systems...

Our students regularly visit local hotels as a way of experiencing first-hand the operational management of a hospitality business.

They also have the chance to engage in real-world projects with the hotels and act as ‘consultants’ to advise or assist with a particular task or challenge.

One of our industry partners is Hotel Sonnenberg who tasked our BA students with coming up with recommendation for improving their internal and external Information Systems.

For our students studying on the Managing Information Systems module, this was the perfect opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice.

The project kicked-off with a site visit where the hotel’s management talked our students through the current systems they use to manage their data.

It was then up to our future hoteliers to come up with proposals for improving the efficiency of both the internal (data management, accounting etc.) systems and the external (marketing, communications etc.).

Just like real life consultants, the students will have to put together business plans and report and then feed this information back to the client (the hotel).

This is a fantastic chance for our students to not just read about but actually work on real industry challenges and we believe this will much better prepare them for similar challenges in their future careers.

We would like to thank the staff at Hotel Sonnenberg for their time and collaboration on this project and we are excited to see what results our students can come up with…
