Welcome to IMI
Where Excellence and Personalisation Meet

Founded in 1991 on the shores of Lake Lucerne, IMI International Management Institute Switzerland is driven by a singular mission: to provide world-class, personalised education in hospitality, business, and culinary arts. We blend Swiss academic excellence with innovation, professionalism, diversity, and a familial approach to learning.

Excellence

We strive for the highest quality in teaching, learning, and service – reflected in our top global rankings and successful alumni.

Professionalism

We foster a culture of respect, integrity, and industry-standard professionalism in and out of the classroom.

Innovation

We embrace new ideas, industry trends, and teaching methods, ensuring our curriculum is dynamic and future-focused.

Diversity & Family

With students and faculty from around the globe, we celebrate cultural diversity. Our family-owned ethos means every student is cared for as part of the IMI family.

From Swiss Roots to Global Recognition

IMI Switzerland was founded in 1991 by Mr. Heinz Bürki, who wanted to build a hospitality school that combined the strength of Swiss traditions with a personal, human approach. The school has remained a Swiss family-owned institution ever since. Heinz and his daughter Isabelle, now serving as Vice President, have built an inclusive and supportive community that feels like a home away from home for students.

Leadership & Faculty

With team members from many parts of the world, IMI’s faculty and staff are as international as our student community. They work closely with each student, encourage curiosity, and help develop individual strengths. This personal approach ensures that students feel supported throughout their studies. With their strong industry backgrounds and diverse perspectives, our lecturers are well equipped to prepare the next generation of hospitality and business professionals. Meet the IMI team below.

Recognition & Accreditations

Excellence at IMI is validated by respected global rankings and accreditations

QS World University Ranking

Ranked #17 globally for Hospitality & Leisure Management, placing IMI among the elite hospitality schools worldwide.

All degrees are internationally recognized, validated by Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) – a university with over 200 years of heritage. (MMU’s Business School holds the Triple Crown accreditation – AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA – a mark of quality achieved by <1% of business schools globally.)

IMI is certified by SQS ISO 9001 for quality management and EduQua, Switzerland’s quality label for educational institutions. We are active members of CHME (Council for Hospitality Management Education) and EUHOFA International (an association of the world’s leading hospitality schools).
“97% of IMI graduates secure jobs within 12 months of graduation.” This statistic speaks to our successful curriculum and career support. It’s more than a number – it means IMI students leave ready to lead in the industry.

The IMI
Campus Experience

Our campus is more than just classrooms – it’s a community. Located only 15 minutes from Lucerne’s city center, our tranquil lakeside campus offers the best of both worlds. You study surrounded by stunning alpine beauty, and yet the cultural excitement of Luzern is just a short bus ride away.

On campus, you’ll find state-of-the-art training kitchens, a fine-dining student-run restaurant, modern classrooms, and comfortable accommodation – all in one place. With a tight-knit student body, it’s easy to make friends and feel at home. IMI is often described by our students as a ‘global family’.
