When did you first start thinking about SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
I have had exposure to the internet since I was a kid. The main thing I do in online marketing is SEO (search engine optimization). I came to know about SEO when I was 16 years old, that is when I created my own blog. When I was studying in IMI, Prof. Caldwell offered me an internship in web marketing at the school. I was able to get in touch with Google analytics and other tools. This is where I started to get more interest in the subject. The company I proudly work for today, Worldsites, ran a contest in partnership with IMI. Worldsites wanted IMI students to make a video about the importance of an accurate translation for online marketing. I was fortunate to win the contest and when the CEO of Worldsites, Mr. Beat Z'graggen, came to award the prize, he came to know about my IT skills and that’s how I ended up working for the company.
What attracted you to Online Marketing?
When I was 16, I came to know about Google Ad Sense. In this, Google puts advertisements on your web site (in this case, my blog) and if someone clicks on the advertisement, Google pays you. That’s how I got interested in SEO . I needed to find a way to bring users to my blog, so that they would click on the advertisement, That is what led me to search more about how SEO works.
What are the latest trends in SEO?
The most significant trend these days is the daily boom of mobile marketing. The reason for that is because people are now accessing the internet on smart phones more than on desktop computers and consequently making business decisions on the go.
How do you see SEO evolving in the future?
Machine learning is a new trend which is evolving rapidly. This is where Google learns how we think and how we behave. This will have a tremendous impact on how search engines will behave and interact with us
You studied hospitality here at IMI. How easy was it for you to find work in business outside of hospitality when you have a BA in hospitality?
As with any career, I had to work a lot, but I was very fortunate to get a very valuable exposure to IT and marketing during my time at IMI. At IMI, I worked on websites, social marketing and helped Ms. Musu to develop the IMI Alumni Network. IT and marketing were always part of my personal interests. I worked in restaurants and hotels for several years, but somehow I always wanted to work in IT.
How would you describe your experience studying here at IMI?
At IMI I made a lot of friends and got a lot of exposure to new cultures. It was a great time of my life. The staff are very friendly and IMI is still like a home to me, I always love to come back. I learned a lot about professionalism, among other valuable skills. All these experiences at IMI prepared me very well for the future and made me a better person as well as a better professional. I am very happy to know that I will always have friends at IMI, welcoming me with arms wide open.
