No two days are ever the same at IMI (and we hope this is what keeps our students so engaged and motivated)...
We aim to diversify the learning experience by taking students on site visits and field trips as well as bringing in expert guest lecturers from the industry.
In May, we were very lucky to be able to welcome Chef Widjiono (Yono) Purnomo to our IMI kitchens.
Chef Yono is a native of Jakarta, Indonesia. He began his career working as a chef with Holland America Cruise Lines before settling in the United States where he now runs his own fine-dining restaurant.
Bringing together his native Indonesian flavours with more contemporary Western dishes, he has built an international reputation and is rightly considered one of Indonesia's most successful culinary exports.
Working with our International Culinary Arts students, Chef Yono ran a special demonstration masterclass preparing a veal dish with mushroom and marsala wine sauce as well as a special Indonesian spicy chicken recipe.
The demonstration was live-streamed on the IMI Facebook page, allowing alumni and friends of IMI to also enjoy this special event.
The students thoroughly enjoyed learning from such a renowned industry figure and the demonstration was a lot of fun for all involved.
We would like to thank Chef Yono for visiting us here in Switzerland and he will always be welcome back in the IMI kitchens!
