In July, we were delighted to be able to welcome a group of international students to campus for two weeks to take part in this specially tailored programme.
The participants, from countries as diverse as Bahrain, Trinidad & Tobago, Kenya, China and Turkey, amongst others, were able to experience life as an IMI Hospitality or Culinary student as well as enjoying various activities and excursions around Switzerland.
Attending sample classes, the students got to meet IMI’s teaching faculty and participate in real-life hospitality school lessons, including demonstration culinary classes.
In addition, our visitors were able to strengthen their linguistic skills as they attended daily language sessions in either English or German.
Outside of the classroom, we kept the students busy with numerous diverse excursions around the local area and Switzerland.
A traditional hike in the local Kastanienbaum countryside was followed by an equally traditional visit to the Aeschbach Chocolate Factory where the students were able to design (and later eat) their very own chocolate bar.
Over the middle weekend, we travelled up Luzern’s spectacular Mount Pilatus and enjoyed the challenge and adventure of the Rope Park where our visitors had to navigate their way around a tree-top obstacle course.
To cool off, the following day we travelled to Alpamare in Zurich – Europe’s biggest indoor aqua park – with various slides and pools for both thrills and relaxation.
The two weeks were rounded off with a celebratory BBQ where our Summer Programme participants could relax and reminisce with the IMI faculty and staff and certificates and awards were presented.
As ever, the time went very fast, but the students all seemed to have an amazing time discovering more about Switzerland and IMI as a school, with many planning to return in the coming months to pursue a full course of study at IMI.
Following on from the success of the Summer camp, we are excited to announce that we will be running a 10-day Winter Programme in January 2018.
Although having the same aim of introducing students to either hospitality management or culinary arts education, the Winter camp will obviously have many different types of activities to the Summer version and we are already looking forward to planning lots of fun in the Swiss Winter wonderland…
