As well as all their hard work in the classroom, we are always encouraging our students to participate in industry events and extra curricular activities.

This not only helps develops their independence and confidence, but also allows them to broaden their hospitality network and interact with current industry leaders.

Of course it is the participation in these types of events which is the important thing; however, it is always a pleasure to hear of our students' successes within the wider industry field.

We were therefore delighted to hear that news that British MSc student Omar had been awarded the 'Best Student Paper' prize at December's Institute of Hospitality Passion4Hospitality event.

Omar explains how he became involved in the Passion4Hospitality competition.

"It's an opportunity to expand your creativity and knowledge of the hospitality industry"

The event is the largest, free graduate and apprentice careers exhibition and conference in the UK hospitality industry and brings together students, apprentices and senior industry professionals.

As well as a range of keynote speakers, there is also the opportunity to attend employment workshops, CV surgeries and various career exhibitions.

One of the highlights of the gathering is the Student Paper Award which is open to all hospitality students with the winning entry being published in the Institute of Hospitality magazine.

Students, apprentices and industry professionals were all in attendance at the event.

Omar's paper tackled the gap in the hospitality job market following the Covid pandemic and was inspired by conversations that took place with one of his IMI lecturers.

Identifying a talent drain in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic, Omar concluded that now is the perfect time for students to pursue either undergraduate or postgraduate hospitality study, with many great opportunities to progress rapidly within the industry.

As well as his full paper being published in a nationally circulated magazine, he was also the happy recipient of a £250 gift voucher for his efforts.

We are incredibly proud of Omar's achievements and can't wait to see what else he goes on to achieve within the industry after completing his studies with us. One thing is for sure, his passion for hospitality remains as great as ever!

As Omar explains in his paper, now could be the perfect time to commence your hospitality study. Complete the form below to receive more information on our range of degree programmes...
