A Swiss federally-approved qualification with worldwide recognition.
One of the only Swiss federally approved qualifications to be taught in English, this Advanced Diploma is equivalent to a UK Level 6 NVQ award with worldwide recognition. Ideal for those looking to run their own hotel or restaurant, the programme has a strong focus on practical hospitality and language skills with three paid internships to complement each study semester.
This first semester introduces the essentials of managing a hospitality operation as well as the basics of finance and health and safety as well as professional English and German language classes.

Progression to Year 2 of the Swiss Advanced Diploma in Hotel & Restaurant Management
This practical unit focuses on the development of students restaurant service skills and knowledge of beverages served within fine-dining restaurant environments. Contact Hours: 48
Introduction to the principles behind rooms division and housekeeping management within hotel properties. Contact Hours: 36
This unit teaches the core academic disciplines for successful university study and provides guidance and materials on researching, referencing, time management and organisation to help students make the most of their time on their chosen programme. Contact Hours: 25
Introduction to the principles behind food storage and preparation in a professional kitchen. Contact Hours: 48
An overview of the financial and accountancy considerations required when managing or starting a hospitality business. Contact Hours: 48
A complete overview of the management considerations required when running an F&B business. Contact Hours: 48
The English language skills required to operate professionally within a hospitality business. Contact Hours: 96
A Swiss federal certification ensuring students are familiar with the latest health and safety and accident prevention and management procedures in the workplace environment. Contact Hours: 8
Introducing you to the basic conversational and professional dialogue skills in the German language. Please note: Students who already speak two of the offical Swiss languages will be exempt from this unit, students who aleady speak German plus one other language will study French instead. The programme itself is quite challenging but brings many lessons and great experiences. This is how I learned to manage my time properly. I also learned how to deal with pressure serving in the IMI main dining hall. This was great preparation for my internship! The internship was not as stressful as I imagined as I was ready for it. I have worked in Vietnam before, but I must say the working environment In Switzerland is completely different and I have learned many new things. I started my German lessons at IMI and it improved a lot during my internship in Zurich.
