Winter comes to BIG Week!

01 March 2017

To welcome our 2017A intake of students we held a winter-wonderland themed BIG Week, celebrating the fun to be had as the snow falls...

Winter is not everyone’s favourite season but in Switzerland there is plenty of fun to be had when the snow comes…

We wanted to celebrate the season that moves from one year to the next with a special Winter Wonderland theme for our 2017A BIG Week.

Our BIG Week welcomes are now a well-established tradition at the school and have been a huge success in helping our international students settle into their new Swiss home.

With various social and information events throughout the week, as well as games and activities, students have no time to feel homesick.

For our Winter Wonderland BIG Week we brought back some old favourites such as the Alpenhorn players and the BIG Quiz as well as introducing some brand new events.

As luck would have it, Valentine’s Day fell right in the middle of the week which gave us the opportunity to host our very first BIG Week Speed Dating event.

The concept gave students a chance to get to know each other better as they were given a minute to discuss a pre-prepared topic of question before moving onto the next student. While we are not sure if love was in the air that night, the event was certainly a lot of fun and is likely to return for future BIG Weeks…

Our other brand new event was the BIG Winter Biscuit Bake. This was a completion where teams of three students had an hour to decorate nine biscuits with a suitable winter theme. The results were highly impressive with the judges awarding marks for complexity, decoration and (of course) sticking to the theme.

To round the week off, we held our traditional closing dinner on the Friday evening and were delighted to welcome IMI’s Duty Supervisor Mr. Karl Hunnisett and his band who entertained students with a series of rock classics.

The evening was made even more special by the fact that students got the chance to try out their Fasnacht costumes making for a highly colourful evening all round!

Prizes were awarded for the week’s competitions as well as the best costumes on the evening. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff and students (especially our BIG Week Reps) who worked so hard to ensure the week was another big success.
