IMI in Indonesia

27 October 2017

IMI's Dr. Brühlmann spent an action-packed week in Indonesia where she caught up with lots of alumni and attended various conferences and events...

When our lecturers travel, they like to make the most of every minute of their visits...

This was never truer then IMI lecturer Dr. Carrie Ann Brühlmann’s recent visit to Indonesia.

One of the highlights of the visit was catching up with the many alumni that we have around the island. IMI has always had very strong links with the country and it was great for Dr. Brühlmann to meet with so many of our former students and see how they are progressing in their lives and their careers.

It was also a real honour for Dr. Brühlmann to be invited to speak to 500 students and faculty at Palembang Tourism Polytechnic. The students will all be volunteers at the 2018 Asian Games and Dr. Brühlmann spoke on the concepts of professional development and leadership including personal branding and presenting oneself both as an individual and as part of a wider community.

The students were really appreciative of the guest lecture and engaged in a lively Q&A session following the presentation before Dr. Brühlmann spoke to local media about the event.

IMI has also worked hard over the years to create relationships with schools and educational institutes in Indonesia. During her stay, Dr. Brühlmann also delivered guest lectures at two of our partner schools – Trisakti Institute of Tourism and Swiss German University – offering insights into the future of the hospitality and tourism industries as well as conducting staff workshops with faculty.

Dr. Brühlmann returned from her trip exhausted but overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality with which she was welcomed at every stage of her trip. She was glad to be able to offer an insight into our traditional Swiss hospitality in return and is already looking forward to her next visit…
