Love is in the air

20 February 2018

With BIG Week 2018A coinciding with both Fasnacht and Valentine's Day, the planning pretty much did itself...

Every BIG Week at IMI involves meticulous and detailed planning by both the staff involved and the BIG Week Reps.

However, sometimes the stars align to make this process that little bit easier…

For our February intake, BIG Week fell not only on the same week as Luzern’s world-famous Fasnacht Carnival but also contained Valentine’s Day.

As well as our classic events such as the BIG Breakfast and the BIG Luzern Treasure Hunt, we also held special themed events around these major occasions.

On the Monday, students had the chance to go and witness the spectacular and colourful Fasnacht parades going through the streets of Luzern. Fantastical costumes, live music and tons and tons of confetti make these parades unforgettable experiences and they were certainly a great introduction to the other side of Swiss culture for our new arrivals.

Wednesday was all about romance, as we held a speed-dating ice-breaker to help our new and returning students get to know each other better. This was great fun with students rotating around the room and answering a series of questions to give a better insight into their personalities and backgrounds.

In a slightly more educational session, students had the chance to get to grips with some Swiss-German language skills in a fun session organised by two of our Swiss members of staff Mr. Portmann and Ms. Roth.

Once again, the participation and enthusiasm of all students and staff made the week a great success and helped our newest intake settle into their new Swiss home and become a part of the IMI family. Many thanks to all involved, especially our BIG Week Reps and volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the week!
