The Greatest Show on Earth

16 April 2018

IMI's International Night is always one of the highlights of our social calendar with our students pulling out all the stops to deliver hospitality in style...

The best hospitality shares many characteristics with a great show or performance.

Excellent presentation, style, entertainment and, of course, a feeling of immense satisfaction at the end are key to leaving your audience happy.

Every year, IMI’s International Night aims to deliver on these performative aspects of hospitality with our students exhibiting the best of their cultures through song, dance, food and drink.

Organised and managed by our students, the event sees our school transformed into a series of food stalls offering tantalising cuisines from all continents of the globe. Curries from India, broths and noodles from Vietnam and Korea, baked desserts from Eastern Europe and barbecued meats from Africa were just some of the treats on offer to our guests.

Once everyone had eaten their fill of the delicious cuisines, the performance part of the night began.

As ever, the show was varied and full of surprises with students displaying many hitherto unseen talents and showcasing the very best of their national heritages.

Piano soloists from Romania and Indonesia moved the audience with their melodies; guitar and song from Vietnam then touched on our emotions before the tempo was ratchetted up with energetic dance numbers featuring students from Vietnam, India, Kenya, Botswana and Indonesia.

The whole show was a triumph and all the students who took part (from performers, to chefs, to organisers, to those who volunteered to set-up and then tidy away) felt a tremendous sense of satisfaction at having been involved with such a well-received event.

This then, is the true meaning of hospitality we try and convey to our students – taking as much pleasure in delighting your guests as they do in receiving such a high-standard of service and delivery. A big thanks to all involved in making International Night such a success!
