Hotel Sonnenberg Project

06 June 2018

Our hospitality innovation and leadership students visited local Hotel Sonnenberg to work on a real-life consultancy project...

When you are preparing students for the real world of work, it makes sense to give them some real world experience.

This is exactly what we try to do here at IMI by balancing theoretical classroom learning with practical experience and industry exposure.

A great example of this is the hotel consultancy project undertaken by our hospitality innovation and leadership students each semester. This involves visiting a local, Swiss hotel and working with them on one of their current revenue growth projects.

This semester, our students visited Hotel Sonnenberg, a traditional hotel situated up the mountain with spectacular, panoramic views of the canton of Luzern.

Having successfully collaborated with the hotel on two previous consultancy projects, we have built up a strong relationship with the management team who are always happy to welcome back our students and are highly interested in their thoughts and feedback on future development.

The current challenge for students is to develop a MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) concept to allow the hotel to increase revenue using existing on-site resources.

Having visited the hotel and received the brief from the General Manager, the students must now work in groups to develop their concept before presenting back to the hotel’s management team.

The project is a great opportunity for students to tackle the challenges and questions that they will be faced with on a daily basis when working in the hospitality sector. It provides a great learning curve for them and makes them better prepared to hit the ground running when they take their first jobs after graduation.

We would like to thank the team at Hotel Sonnenberg for their hospitality and once again agreeing to work with our school. We look forward to seeing the innovative results our students come up with…
