Media World Visit

20 June 2018

We took our students to the Swiss Transport Museum's Media World where they discovered some of the latest technologies that will be used in the industry of the future...

Not all teaching is done in the classroom and at IMI we like to provide a wide variety of educational excursions and trips for students to bring their theoretical learning to life.

One of the most popular visits is to Luzern's Swiss Transport Museum, where students get to discover the latest in hi-tech innovation at the centre's Media World.

Featuring the latest in augmented reality and simulation sciences, it offers a vision of the technology that will play an ever more important role in the hospitality industry of the future.

The centre features over 10 interactive stations including the chance to produce your own content in a TV studio or project yourself in front of different backgrounds using their greenbox.

We took a mixed-group of hospitality and culinary students studying the Managing Information Systems module to the centre to get a hands-on experience of some of these latest innovations.

The module covers standard software and information systems as well as introducing concepts of V.R., augmented reality and gamification and their potential applications in the modern hospitality industry.

In this way we look to "future-proof" our students so that they arrive in their first employment roles with a wide-ranging knowledge of the latest tools and technologies that they may be expected to use.
