International Night

23 October 2018

Our students once again pulled out all the stops in showcasing the very best of IMI's multi-cultural environment through food, drink and performance...

“Keep your language. Love its sounds, its modulation, its rhythm. But try to march together with men of different languages, remote from your own, who wish like you for a more just and human world.” Helder Camara

Our philosophy at IMI has always been that we are a ‘global family’ preparing students for the international environment that is today’s hospitality industry.

Cultural understanding, tolerance and empathy are key skills when forging a career in multi-cultural workplaces, and we attempt to foster these qualities in every aspect of our teaching and social activities here at the school.

The bi-annual event that perhaps best showcases this multi-culturalism, is our International Night, where students prepare food and drink delicacies from their homelands as well as putting together performance pieces to show off their cultural heritage.

October’s event was one of our most ambitious to date, with fifteen different food stalls and ten unique performances. We enjoyed curries from India, noodle soups from Vietnam, seafood from Greece and sweet bakes from Russia among many other delicious culinary treats on offer.

Performances included songs from Malaysia, Indonesia, China and Taiwan, acoustic performances and rap from India and dance from Vietnam. We also presented special awards to students in categories such as ‘Kindest Helper’ and ‘Best Friend’ to celebrate those students who go that extra mile to make the day-to-day experience on campus that little bit better.

As ever, we were very pleased to welcome guests from the industry as well as alumni, family and friends of the school and everyone remarked on the excellent hospitality on display and the welcoming environment created by our students.

We would like to take the chance to thank all the guests who attended the event and an extra special thanks to our students for putting on such a great evening! The spirit of hospitality is about bringing people together in mutual enjoyment and this night was a fine example of this.
