Pasta Perfection

03 May 2019

As a special end-of-term task, we challenged our Higher Diploma students to create the perfect pasta dish using only what they could find in the IMI refrigerators...

We love to challenge our students here at IMI as, more often than not, this bring out the very best in them.

During the last week of term 19A, Mr. Georgiou decided to unleash the creativity of his Higher Diploma Menu Development class with an Italian-themed test.

Using only what they could find in the IMI kitchen fridges and store room, the students had to put together a full pasta dish and side salad restaurant standards.

This was not only a test of our students resourcefulness but also an important lesson in avoiding food waste and how most things in our fridges can be re-utilised with a little imagination and effort.

As ever, our students stepped up to the not-so-metaphorical plate as they put together some mouth-watering dishes including a carbonara and Greek salad, an arrabiata and Caesar salad, a creamy tomato and caprese pasta salad and a cheese vegetarian pasta with egg salad.

As an end-of-term treat, the students got to wash down the dishes with a home-brewed Easter chocolate stout made earlier in the term - a fitting way to celebrate another highly successful and creative term in the IMI restaurant and kitchens!
