Fun in the Sun

30 July 2019

It was another action-packed two weeks as we welcomed a batch of young students on campus for our 2019 Summer Programme...

There are not many better places to be when the sun shines than in Switzerland!

With the scenic, impressive mountains and glistening, crystal-clear lakes, the summer really shows off this beautiful country at its finest.

Every year at IMI, we hold our Summer Programme, where we welcome young, prospective hospitality, business and culinary students to campus for two weeks of activities, masterclasses and excursions.

Our 2019 Summer Programme saw students join us from Austria, China, Korea, Romania, Russia, Vietnam and South Africa. After arriving and settling into campus, it was straight to action as we held our opening day icebreaker activities where, among other games, the students had to spell out the IMI logo using only their bodies (see pictures below).

To help with their language skills, our guests would have daily classes in either English or German as well as regular hospitality or culinary masterclass sessions with our IMI faculty.

There were also excursions to visit the 5* Hotel National in Luzern, where our visitors were given a guided tour of the property and a great insight into the running of a leading, luxury hotel. To help keep energy levels high, we also enjoyed a visit to the Aeschbach chocolate factory, where the Summer campers were able to make their very own chocolate bar as well as learning some of the secrets of what makes Swiss chocolate the world’s best.

Over the weekend, there was a boat ride to the kanton of Schwyz – home to the Victorinox factory, famous for their Swiss Army Knives and other traditional products including watches and travel gear. Sunday allowed for some chill-out time with beach games by the lake followed by ten-pin bowling in the nearby town of Kriens.

We rounded-off the programme with our traditional celebratory BBQ and certificate awards as well as prizes for the individual competition winners over the two weeks. All participants seemed to have a great time and it was a real pleasure for us to welcome such motivated and positive young people onto our campus – we hope they can join us again soon for one of the full IMI programmes!
