International Night

07 October 2019

Great food, fantastic performances, a visit from our very first batch of students, and a marriage proposal! Our October International Night will certainly live long in the memory...

Our regular International Nights are always a celebration of our students' cultures and talents, but our October event became an even bigger celebration as we witnessed a marriage proposal live on stage!

For the past two years, the International Nights have been coordinated by IMI's Ms. Jurate Tomsonaite (a former student of the school and current member of the BDA team). Her boyfriend, Fahad (also an IMI alumni) surprised her live on stage at the start of the show and asked for her hand in marriage. (Needless to say, she said yes!)

As if this wasn’t enough excitement, we also had some very special guests at the event from our very first intake of 1991. The group of 10 students from this first batch (known as ‘The Pioneers’) also took to the stage during the show to share their memories of IMI and offer valuable advice to our current students based on their combined, vast experience in the hospitality industry.

Luckily, before all the drama on stage, we had been treated to truly excellent food and drink from the many international stalls set up by our students. Curries and noodles from India and S.E. Asia, dumplings and salads from Russia, Latin American street food and bretzels (and of course beer) from Germany were just some of the many culinary highlights.

The show itself took on a real sense of party following the buzz created by the happy couple’s engagement. Starting with a dance routine from our Indonesian students and with musical performances from Russia, Malaysia and Kazakhstan, the show had a grand finale with high octane dance routines from our Indian, Pakistani and African students.

As well as all this, we handed out awards for Best Newcomer, Best Returning Student, Party Animal, Style Icon and Most Athletic – a fun way of commemorating the other side of student life at the school.

The evening was a great success with our many guests complimenting the students on the warmth of their welcome and the high-level of hospitality on show. A big thanks to Ms. Jurate, the SRC team and all the other staff and students who made the event so enjoyable.

We would also like to offer a big congratulations to Jurate and Fahad and wish them every joy and happiness in their future life together!
