IMI @ Swiss City Marathon

Hospitality comes in many different forms…

It can be taking responsibility for the welfare of a guest, ensuring your actions result in a great customer experience, or simply offering a warm smile and friendly greeting at the right time.

For the runners at the Swiss City Marathon events, it was this simpler (yet highly impactful) form of hospitality that was on display as our students greeted them at the end of their runs with a big “congratulations” and some much needed fruit sustenance.

For several years now, IMI students have volunteered at the event – one of the biggest sporting events in Switzerland – and have benefitted from first-hand exposure and insight into the logistics involved in running such a huge operation.

With more than 10,000 runners participating this year in the three events (marathon, half-marathon and 10 km run) our students were certainly kept busy. However, as with previous years, we were very impressed with their energy, enthusiasm and warmth as they greeted all participants at the finish line.

It is difficult to overstate what a difference a friendly, smiling face can make at the end of a gruelling 42 km run and this, in many ways, is the perfect definition of true hospitality!
