A message from Oxford Brookes

01 April 2020

A letter to our culinary arts students from Dr. Sara Hannam, Head of Global Partnerships at our UK validating partner Oxford Brookes University...

Dear Oxford Brookes Students,

As you are already aware and in line with all our partners, we are closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation around COVID-19 on a daily basis, aiming to keep our academic community of students and staff well informed and supported.

Please be reassured that we are working directly with both the management and teaching team at IMI Luzern to ensure that the move to online teaching aligns with our standard for delivery.

Whilst for now you are unable to return to class, we are fully committed to delivering the best possible learning opportunities for all our students. IMI has already put in place a high quality, online distance learning programme that will deliver the same learning outcomes. A few changes are required to be made to the practical assessment of learning outcomes and these will be approved by Oxford Brookes very shortly and communicated to you by your unit leaders at IMI.

IMI Switzerland has and will be ensuring that each individual student has the necessary technology and support to fully engage in the online learning experience until the time comes when you are able to return to face to face
studies. If you have any specific questions relating to this, you should contact Mr. Currie, the programme leader.

We also appreciate that IMI may need to extend certain assessment dates in order to ensure that these can be completed fairly for all students. We will be working with them directly on this and further details will be sent to you in due course.

Overall, we would like to reassure you that our assessment regulations allow Examination Committees to exercise discretion in coming to decisions on student progression and completion where extraordinary circumstances, similar to the ones we are currently envisaging, apply. That discretion will always be applied fairly, reasonably, and in line with the spirit of the course regulations.

We wish the very best to you and your families to stay safe.

With best wishes

Dr. Sara Hannam, Head of Global Partnerships
