Swiss Digital Day

03 November 2020

To celebrate Swiss Digital Day, we held an interactive coffee morning and discussion forum in our Swiss Room restaurant...

Hospitality has always been an industry that celebrates the traditional which embracing the benefits of the modern (and futuristic).

We are also lucky that our school is located in Switzerland which is a world-leader when it comes to technological innovation and advancement.

To celebrate this, every year Switzerland holds a national Digital Day featuring showcases, talks and presentations introducing the latest digital tools and trends used for business, commerce and our own day to day lives.

IMI has always embraced forward-thinking technology and, for the last few years, has taken students to experience some of the exhibitions and events held around Switzerland as part of the Digital Days.

This year, with Covid restrictions in place, events obviously had to move online, so we decided to hold a special coffee morning and discussion panel in our Swiss Room.

IMI’s Head of Digital Transformation Christoph Kübler, led the session and had prepared presentations on the most popular digital themes as voted for by students in the lead up to the event.

With hospitality and, in particular, F&B in mind, it was no surprise to see that students were most interested in the use of 3D printing in the culinary industry to produce highly detailed and specific food moulds and templates as well as the adoption of AI in the brewing industry with the release of the first ever AI crafted beer.

To bring the presentations to life, our culinary chefs had prepared some biscuits and cookies using a 3D printed mould in the shape of Luzern’s famous Chapel Bridge Water Tower. (As it was a morning session, we stuck to coffee instead of AI craft beer!
