Culinary Visit to Sirha Fair

Our Culinary Arts degree students headed to France to view the Bocuse d'Or Grand Final...

We like to inspire our students in many different ways and we find one of the most effective methods is to show them industry professionals in action.

Our culinary arts students had the chance to see some of the continent's best chefs in competition when they visited the Sirha fair in Lyon, France.

The fair played host to the Bocuse d'Or Grand Final, where chefs from around the world competed in national teams to be crowned world champions.

Given set themes and ingredients to be included in their dishes, the teams of chefs used innovative presentation and flavour combinations to impress the jury of judges and wow the audience in attendance.

It was a great opportunity for our students to interact with practitioners at the top of their game and take inspiration from the techniques and ideas they witnessed.

IMI Culinary Lecturer Chef Jonas accompanied the students to the event and recognised the value it offered to our young IMI chefs.

"The Bocuse d'Or event gave our degree students the possibility to see all the practical gastronomy learning outcomes used in the highest ranked cooking competition on the planet," he said.

"It was a fantastic day out and we can't wait to put some of the ideas we saw into practice in the classroom!"

As well as being a fantastic source of inspiration, it was also a great feeling for the students to be able to attend a live, public event after the last year of cancellations due to the Covid pandemic.

An inspirational event in more ways than one!
