Career Days on Campus

08 April 2022

It was great to see the return of Career Days on campus with the visit of The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis and Placement International as well as HRC International...

IMI's Career Days give our students a fantastic chance to connect directly with industry professionals and discover global internship and career opportunities.

During the Covid pandemic, we had to adjust the delivery of these events to an online mode which, while an acceptable alternative, lacked the human contact which is so important to hospitality.

It was therefore a great feeling to see the return of our on-campus events as we welcomed The Ritz-Calton, St. Louis with Placement International and then HRC International to Kastanienbaum.

The companies presented their brands to students before carrying out interviews for a variety of exciting hospitality and culinary roles.

The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis is a luxury hotel situated in the Arts and Garden District of Clayton, Missouri and offering over 30,000 square-feet of event space onsite. They were accompanied by Placement International who specialise in finding candidates positions in the luxury hotel and restaurant industry in the USA and internationally.

Placement company HRC offers a wide-range of opportunities within both the US and Europe and has over 25 years’ experience of helping students develop their international careers.

Welcoming the return of the events, IMI’s Internships and Careers Manager Simon Portmann said: “It is great to have them back and to see full classrooms again!

“We believe face-to-face interviews are really important as, in hospitality, it is all about a smile which can be difficult to experience in the same way online.”

Malaysian student Chew Hew Wen was experiencing Career Days for his first time at IMI and was really impressed with how the events were run.

"It was a really interesting presentation and great to meet with these experienced industry professionals on campus," he said.

"They were really helpful in answering all our questions and giving us great advice on which of the many exciting opportunities might be best for us."

We are looking forward to announcing many more Career Day visitors over the course of the semester and can’t wait to connect in-person once again with them.
