They say knowledge is power which, in our opinion, makes researchers some of the world's most significant contributors…
We try to instil the importance of thorough research and academic investigation in our students as soon as they arrive at IMI in order that they achieve the best results possible in their studies.
Twice a year, we host our Research Forum which acts as a showcase for the dissertation work carried out by our BA and MBA students as well as featuring a variety of talks and workshops from guests and external speakers.
The theme for our seventh Research Forum was “curiosity did not kill the cat” upending the traditional saying and instead encouraging curiosity as the vital investigative tool that it is.
Keeping with the cat theme, we introduced our ‘Lion’s Cage’ competition where students presented their research through a panel debate format with the audience able to submit question and feedback live through our interactive messaging platform.
As ever, our forum favourite ‘Poster Competition’ returned where students are encouraged to get creative in presenting their work in an attractive and engaging poster format.
We were also delighted to welcome two guest speakers for this edition of the forum. All the ways from Sri Lanka, we were joined by Mr. Roshan De Silva, founder of the Ruuk Village resort. Ruuk Village is a kite surfing school and retreat in Sri Lanka offering peace and tranquillity in a sustainable environment with an emphasis on supporting the local community both through employment and trade.
It was also great to welcome back alumnus Michael Müller who is now Assistant Bar Manager at Luzern’s Château Gütsch, one of the city’s best hotels with an international reputation for the quality and variety of its cocktail bar. Michael talked our students through his journey from hospitality student to his current position, explaining how hard work and determination are key qualities needed to progress in the industry.
It was a pleasure to hear from such interesting and experienced speakers and also great to get an insight into the work of our current students and how their research could shape the future of hospitality. A big thank you goes to all the students and staff involved in organising yet another highly successful forum!
