Short CoursesSummer Programme
We love surprises at IMI and there is no better surprise than receiving a visit from long-lost friends!
During their reunion tour of Switzerland, alumni Paul, Dodie, Zoufikar, Glen, Alex and Cedric took the opportunity to visit us here on campus and take a trip down memory lane in seeing their old classrooms and bedrooms.
After graduating in 1996 and 1997, the friends lost contact (understandably, given this was a time before Facebook, WhatsApp and LinkedIn).
It was Cedric who took it upon himself to track down his former classmates using a combination of online research, available information from the school and the newly emerging social media platforms.
Although not an easy task with the friends spread all over the globe, from Australia to Denmark via Sri Lanka and Singapore, Cedric stuck to it and eventually managed to track down the majority of his graduating cohort from his time at IMI.
Getting in touch electronically was one thing but arranging a physical meet-up proved just as tricky with an original reunion for 2007 having to be cancelled due to various other commitments within the group.
However, if there is one thing we like to teach at IMI, it is determination and persistence to achieve one’s goals and it was fantastic to welcome the gentleman on campus as part of their nostalgic visit to Switzerland.
As well as calling in to our Kastanienbaum home, the group also took time to visit the old campus location in nearby Weggis as well as visiting some of the hotels and restaurants where they carried out their internships some 20+ years ago.
Members of the IMI faculty and staff spent a very pleasant afternoon catching up with guys and it was great to hear stories of their time at our school as well as learning how their personal and professional lives have developed since. We hope this example can serve as an inspiration to other alumni as there is nothing that brings us more joy than catching up with former members of the IMI family!
