Short CoursesSummer Programme
When people think of Switzerland, it is normally the mountains and lakes that first come to mind; however, the country also has a thriving technological and digital sector.
Every year, the best in Swiss technological innovation is celebrated at Swiss Digital Day where tech companies and other industries showcase how they are using the latest digital developments to improve and expand their products and services.
We took a group of forward-thinking students to Zurich train station where the main concourse had been taken over by expo stands and stages with various interactive displays and VR equipment available to try out.
Companies such as CSS, Microsoft, EY and SBB were on-hand to explain how future technology will have a huge impact on every aspect of our existence, from health checks and diet to transportation and banking.
Not many companies are as heavily involved in these future digital innovations as Google and we were also lucky enough to be able to visit their Zurich offices where they were holding a series of talks and seminars throughout the day as part of the Digitaltag event.
Our students attended a really thought-provoking talk on Machine Learning and how computer algorithms are developing in their ability to spot patterns in data and apply these to help with both everyday practical issues and larger world issues. (One example was the ability to predict and prevent environmental events such as forest fires.)
The whole day was a great success and our students returned to campus full of ideas and inspiration as to how future tech can help them both in their day-to-day living and in their future careers as hospitality and business professionals.
We can't wait to see the next evolution of digital applications at next year's event!
