It was another sunny day at Grand Casino Luzern as we celebrated our 2022 Graduation Ceremony.
Always a special event, this year’s ceremony carried an even greater significance following a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic.
Having held virtual, recorded ceremonies in 2020 and 2021, it was such a pleasure to welcome graduates from those two years to join our 2022 cohort.
As is traditional, the ceremony was held at the Casino venue by the side of lake Lucerne – offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and great photo opportunities for our graduates and their families.
Celebrating the achievements of our Bachelor’s, Master’s and Postgraduate Diploma students, the event saw the awarding of the students’ official degree diplomas as well as a series of special awards recognising outstanding academic achievement and contribution to the school community.
Speeches were provided by the academic representatives as well as by alumna Jiayin Achermann-Liu, co-owner of Jia Liu Restaurant in Luzern, and the student response speech by Indonesian, culinary arts graduate Christopher Kevin.
This year’s event also gave us the chance to commemorate our 25 plus years of collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, and it was our great pleasure to welcome Professor Jenny Watling – Pro-Vice-Chancellor International – from the university to present their validated degree awards to the graduates.
During the ceremony, IMI’s Academic Dean Mr. Currie presented Prof. Watling with a specially engraved commemorative plate, recognising the long-standing relationship between our two institutes.
Commenting on the event, IMI’s CEO Professor Caldwell said: “It is the highlight of the academic calendar and it’s such a special moment, one that makes us so proud of all our students.”
He added: “Having so many students returning from previous years from all different parts of the world, shows how much their IMI experience meant to them and we are so pleased that they get this opportunity to celebrate their wonderful accomplishments.”
Malaysian graduate Daniel Timothy William from our 2021 cohort returned to Switzerland specially for the ceremony and he recognised the significance of it as the closing of the students’ study chapters.
“It feels good and bad,” he said.
“Bad because we’re done and there is no more coming back, but good to see our achievements and how we’ve all made it, that feels great!”
We fully appreciate Daniel's mixed emotions - we are obviously very sad that this group of students have come to the end of their IMI adventures; however, we are even more excited to see what they will now go on to achieve in their futures.
We are extremly proud of each and every one of them and very glad to have them as lifelong members of the IMI family!
