Staff and student collaboration

At IMI, staff and students work closely together in order to achieve academic excellence.

We believe this approach has benefits for both sides with staff often being challenged and inspired by the fresh-thinking and modern outlook of our students.

In an excellent example of such collaboration, lecturer Mr. Ioannis Evagelou recently joined forces with two of our alumni at an International Tourism Conference in Athens, Greece.

The 7th International Conference on Tourism & Hospitality Management was organised by The Tourism Research Institute (T.R.I.) and the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Athens in cooperation with the University of Alexandria, Egypt, IMI Switzerland, Huxley College of the Western Washington University, USA and the University of Aegean, Greece.

Alongside Belgium alumnus Antoine Golinvaux, Mr. Evagelou presented their joint research paper - “The Role of Semiotics in Tourism Destination Branding through Social Media: The Case of Switzerland” – to the conference.

The paper was based on Antoine’s 2015 dissertation which he researched and completed under the guidance of Mr. Evagelou at IMI.

In addition, IMI hosted a workshop for students on “Key trends and employment opportunities in the global travel, tourism and hospitality industries”.

The workshop was delivered with the support of Greek alumnus (and former student of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens) Dimitrios Christou who helped deliver the workshop and provided many insights from his experiences as a student at IMI.

We always enjoy the chance to work with our former students, especially when it is to promote the development of research and study within the field of hospitality.

A big thank you to both Antoine and Dimitrios for their work and support that ensured both the conference and workshop were great successes.
