Hi-Tech Trip

15 January 2019

We took a group of students to Luzern's Verkehrshaus Museum to discover the latest in virtual and augmented reality technology...

New technology is embraced by many and viewed with caution by some. However, what seems inevitable is that, each day, it creeps more and more into our basic functions and interactions.

This being the case, we feel it is essential that our students are up-to-date with the latest in technological trends and how these can be applied to both the hospitality and wider industries.

We are lucky in this regard, that we have the Verkehrshaus Museum situated very close to us in Luzern. As well as transport, chocolate and culture exhibitions, the museum also contains a vast Media World section displaying the latest and most exciting Swiss and international technological developments.

This excursion always proves popular with our tech-savvy students and gives them the opportunity to enjoy a VR car experience, design their own computer game or bring their artistic sketches to life through augmented reality.

As well as being a lot of fun and very interesting, the trip also has a practical application to students’ study. Technologies like gamification, VR and AR are already being seen in the industry with hotels using these advances to enhance their reservation systems, lobby experiences and in-room guest experience.

As a school, we like to stay on the cutting edge and we believe this approach means our students are best-placed to enter the industry with fresh and innovative ideas that will enhance their employers’ business.

Many thanks to the Verkehrshaus team for their welcome and hospitality during our visit!
