Hello Spring!

13 May 2019

Our May BIG Week brought a new season, new growth and baby animals in nature and, most importantly, new students to the IMI campus...

Spring is one of the most exciting and pleasurable times of year, with new life and growth all around.

The season also coincides with the start of our Term B semester which means we get to welcome a whole new batch of students to Kastanienbaum to join the IMI family.

As ever, the first week of the term is the BIG Week where students get to know each other and their new surroundings through a series of information sessions, activities and excursions.

‘Hello Spring’ was the theme of the BIG Week as we embraced the change in the season alongside the changes in the make-up of our campus. Students spent the first few days meeting the various lecturers and faculty members and being shown around by our BIG Week Reps (returning student volunteers who were on hand to help with the BIG Week activities).

One of the key priorities in the first week is to find your way around. With this in mind, we sent the new students off on the BIG City Treasure Hunt – a series of tasks and photo challenges to be completed around the city of Luzern to help them get more familiar with their new home.

Food and culinary creativity are a large part of what we do here at IMI so, later in the week, we set the new arrivals a Bake Off challenge where they had to create a fresh Spring soup and baked pavlova dessert to be judged by our expert IMI chef lecturers.

After those tasty treats, it was time to get some fresh air as we set off on our BIG Spring Hike, where we explored the local countryside, forestry and farms of the Kastanienbaum region (and said “hello” to some new-born baby cattle, goats and piglets).

We rounded-off the week with the BIG Quiz where the students were tested on the information they had received over the course of their induction, before giving out awards and prizes. Once again, it was a highly enjoyable, and busy first week on campus and it was great getting to know all our new IMI cohort – we wish them a very successful and rewarding term ahead!
