Innovation on high

17 December 2019

We took our Hospitality Leadership and Innovation students to the nearby Klewenalp resort as part of their live consultancy project...

In Switzerland, we are big believers in blue-sky thinking and, in winter, the best way to get to the blue sky is to climb a mountain.

In this spirit, we took a group of our BA (Hons) students up to the Klewenalp resort, situated at 1,600 metres and with spectacular views over Lake Lucerne and the surrounding region.

However, this was not just a sight-seeing excursion; our students were there as part of their leadership and innovation module where they have to work on a real-life consultancy project.

The first part of the project is the site visit and we were lucky to be afforded excellent hospitality by the CEO of the resort Mr. Roger Joss, who took the time to show our students around the operation as well as present to them some of the business challenges facing the resort.

Our students must now work on innovative solutions to meet the current risks and challenges facing Klewenalp. They will then present these to Mr. Joss and IMI's Dr. Brühlmann with the best ideas having the chance of being put into action by the resort.

Explaining the purpose behind the project, Dr. Brühlmann said: “This year, I was inspired by my student Yelnur to do something different.

“I wanted my students to get the most out of their class assessment and out of living in Switzerland (so) I contacted the CEO of Klewenalp.”

We are excited to see what our students come up with and can’t wait to see the finalised presentations in January.

A big thanks goes to Mr. Joss for agreeing to collaborate with us on this project and to Dr. Brühlmann for organising this exciting opportunity for the students.
